As Gaara walked through the narrow spaces between the rows of shelves, he noticed how dusty both the wood and the books were. The whole library itself was rather unlit and the air inside was getting a bit stale, while the scent of old tomes persisted in the state of relative abandon that reigned. Was there truly such a lack of any desire for theory in Sunagakure? Had everything really tuned towards the practical side in the struggle for survival, against factors such as finances and rivalling villages?
He couldn't really blame the young shinobi for not coming here to obtain knowledge. He himself hadn't frequented the library much as a Genin, being already as powerful and well-versed in those techniques that he needed as he had been. Only later had he understood the need to accumulate as much raw information as possible, and then process it to one's best use, personalize it in practical situations on the field.
He had been doing a lot of reading these past few years, to compensate for his previous period of ignorance. And he kept promising to himself that, slowly, he was going to change things and raise interest for knowledge among the Sand shinobi once more.
More often, he found that he liked the library, after all. He could be alone for about an hour each day, away from his duties as the Kazekage. He couldn't afford to neglect those for any longer than that, but one hour each day had still helped him a great deal.
Pointing his finger and barely brushing the covers with its tip, he swept through titles with attentive eyes and the beginning of a frown. He would have liked to just lock himself up with all these and finish them in one spree, but that was impossible, so he resignedly made his difficult choice, pulling out a volume of general history.
Turning away from the shelves for now, he walked to the other section of the library, intending to take a seat at one of the tables. It didn't really matter, since they were all empty all the time, anyway, but he preferred the one in the corner, right by the paper lantern that hung plainly on the wall.

Usagi sat at a table, reading a book. It wasn't very interesting, but right now, nothing was. This just happened to be another one of those books ment to confuse the reader . Usagi wasn't even halfway through the first page, but suddenly found her head throbbing. So much confusion in the few paragraphs. She looked up and started rubbing her temples. " So much confusion, the room is spinning!" she thought.
Her eyes quickly darted to the other person in the library, but it was his fiery red hair that caught her attention. She closed her book and walked over to him. " Hello," she said, smiling at him.

Gaara was just flipping through the book's pages, trying to get an overview of the contents before he would actually start reading, when he was distracted by a slight shuffling noise that caused him to stop in mid-path. He raised his eyes from the book, only to be surprised at the sight of a girl sitting there with a volume of her own to peruse. He didn't know what she was reading, but the sight of someone who had actually come here surprised him. All these days he had been to the library and there was always nobody... and now suddenly...
His first impulse was to withdraw silently, put the history book back in its place and leave. Somehow, he wasn't entirely comfortable with somebody there, it just seemed... strange. But, as the Kazekage, that wasn't the right approach and he suppressed his foolish and childish impulse.
Just in time.
He had managed to look entirely impassive again by the time she noticed his presence and actually headed his way. She said hello and he was left interiorly confused, though there were no exterior signs to betray as much.
"Hello," he responded the same way, finding it the only sensible thing to say, and accompanying it with a small nod of acknowledgment. He felt a bit comforted by the sight of a smile on her lips -- it told him he hadn't been entirely anti-social. He wasn't, usually, not anymore, but it could still get difficult to interact with people sometimes.

Usagi's smiled slightly broadend. " I'm Usagi, Taranabi Usagi," she said, a small hint of shyness in her voice. She started twirling a lock of her long white-and-black hair around her finger as she thought of something else to say. It wasn't very easy to make friends, so she usually stuck with the few she had managed to make.
Her face suddenly lit up with embarassment as she realized who it was: Gaara, the KazeKage. How could she not have recognized him. She tried to keep her shock hidden. " Um.. What are you reading?" she asked, letting go of her hair.

Talim looked over at Usagi and sat at the opposite side of the table then looked in the general direction and raised a hand and waved politely at the red head following suit and then glanced back at her book and began reading. The book was called 'Cupids fury' and it was about a man masacring a clan for the love of a woman.'How cheesey'She thought

Tsukiko got up from the table frustrated. 'That book did a ton of good' she thought sarcasticly. She got up quickly and went to another shelf.
She looked at a bunch of books. Some were weird, but look interesting enough. Her hand grazed a few books every now and then. The pile in her hand grew from one book to four. She kept walking, looking at some of the people walking around. Her intense glare made everyone look away.
She couldn't help it. She had been doing that for so long it just seemed plastered there. She sighed and with her free hand, rubbed her temples.

"Oh I'm being terribly rude, sorry,I'm Talim Ranma." Talim said glancing from the red head to her friend then back to the book she was reading' who's he' Talim thought being from Iwa and all and not reading the news paper or watching T.V. such is the life of a witch.

"It's... nice to meet you," Gaara replied with, yet again, the only thing he could say, trying his hardest not to make his voice a disconcerted monotone. To his relief, he managed to give it a rather thoughtful tone: if not the best and most sociable thing, it was at least acceptable.
There was no point in him introducing himself as well... he never had needed to do it, first because he was known as the one to fear, and then as the Kazekage. They would know already.
Then, he noticed there was a second person in there, who, through his initial shock, had escaped his perception. And there was also a third, considerably more withdrawn. He almost gave a start as he noticed them, and it took the concerted effort of every single muscle in his body for him not to actually do it and betray how tense he felt. Through these past few years, he hadn't even noticed how much he had changed... or at least, he always forgot, only to be reminded again, at each new contact with other people.
He tried his best to smile kindly to Talim, for at least a moment. He had probably been a bit clumsy in doing it, he figured, but it was all right.
"A... history book," he remembered to offer Usagi the reply he still owed her.
"..."
A slight hesitation, as he was pondering.
"How about you?" he finally allowed himself to ask, for courtesy's sake, while looking somewhat through her, obliviously.

" It was one of those confusing books where the author purposely confuses you. Oh, Talim, this is Gaara, the KazeKage. Gaara, this is one of my friends Talim," Usagi introduced them, pointing to them as she announced their names.
It felt strange, she had never made an introduction before. She had no one to introduce. But she liked the way it felt. It made her feel like she wasn't just an invisible spec that no one knew anymore, but it felt as if she had suddenly popped out, making people notice her.

Tsukiko finally looked up, it wasn't as quiet as it was. She looked at the three others, slightly interested. She watched the one reading a book, and almost laughed out loud when she saw the title of the book. Almost.
She looked at the other two, who were somewhat talking. She stared at the girl for a moment, no longer then two seconds, before looking back at the other girl.
They fit a description. She felt as if she knew them, or someone she knew did. She was pondering on that as she was trying to concentrate on looking for her book. ' The boy has a demon too. I can sense him. Really?' She looked back at the boy, and she turned back to the book shelf. 'How can you tell? To put it simply, Demon senses.' She silently laughed at that. 'Do they tingle too?' She joked.

Dust.
Dim light.
The beautiful blonde huffed. This library was so dirty! Who'd been the last to clean? When, two years ago? Honestly - didn't people care to read anymore? Her ears suddenly picked up the sound of low voices, and she shifted a book aside, peering through curiously.
She immediately recognized the shock of red hair on the other side. Quickly restoring the book, she circled around the end of the row, she came up to her brother and the two random girls trying to converse with him. Converse. She had to cover up a snort at the ridiculous notion of some girls trying to talk to her anti-social brother.
She made a respectful bow to the redhead, nodding politely to the two girls.
Hello, Kazekage-chan, girls. What're we talking about in this lovely dusty library?

Gaara's eyes darted from one girl to the other, the only element of motion in the stillness of his expression, as he was trying to keep up with them. He wasn't used to being around such lively people, what with how swamped in duties and documents and council meetings he had become. He hadn't tried to help that state, either, satisfied to just have something to fill his time, something to hide behind and find a meaning for himself in.
He didn't really know how he should react. People in the village usually addressed him as 'Kazekage-sama', and were somewhat distant, as formalities and respect required. The only ones that ever called him Gaara, or variations of that, were his siblings and Matsuri. And not even they did it all the time.
"Yes, it's... fine," he finally confirmed that these girls could call him Gaara, once he had pondered enough on it. It didn't really matter if they did... he guessed.
Just as he did so, growing uneasy with the feeling that he had nothing left to say to them, he received the fourth or fifth shock in such a short while. Fortunately, this turn of the events was a rather comforting one, in the person of someone he actually had a well-defined relationship with.
"Temari," he even afforded to show a bit of wonder at her wereabouts as he smiled slightly her way, before he offered a vague reply to her question. "Nothing much..."
He said no more, but the question in his eyes was obvious as he looked to his sister: What was she doing here? However, though truly a curiosity of his, it didn't lack the gratitude he owed her for arriving when she did and tearing him out of that utter state of transient confusion.

Usagi turned to see Temari, her idol since she was young. She's so strong, Usagi thought. " We're not really tlking about anything, Temari-san, just books really," she answered, giving Temari the same respectful bow. She felt like such an idiot, acting this way. Now her face turned bright red, something hard to miss against her pale skin.
She calmed down, returning her face to normal, and returned to her full height. Just calm down, she thought " If you two would prefer to talk in private, I could just go back to my friends," she pointed to the other side of the library. " I wouldn't mind, really."
Way to calm down and keep it cool, she scolded herself
( by the way, i checked, and -san can mean either mr. or miss/ms. just wanted to clarify that)
